Oil Paintings

I use color and light to try to express the energy, the life force, that I feel in Nature. My oil paintings are built up in layers. In an underpainting I establish the drawing and values, in colors that differ significantly from the intended finish. Through successive layers, a complementary under-painting may show through as a subtle variation that adds complexity to a surface. Sometimes I choose to leave strong accents of the original color to enliven the overall color conversation.
